Learning to master musical concepts is a life-long endeavour. In fact, most of the great musicians of the world, both past and present, will testify that nobody actually lives long enough to master anything, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try.
I was very fortunate to have studied with some of the greatest teachers including Charlie Banacos, Dick Grove, Garry Dial and Jeff Castleman (the last bass player to play with Duke Ellington before Duke died). Of course, all these guys taught me solid musical concepts, but they also emphasized the importance of how to practice and how to integrate the concepts into your playing so you can actually use the material you’ve practiced in the music that you want to play.
All these concepts along with 40 years’ experience as a player and teacher is captured in my ten books that are available on my bookstore. You can now get any of my eBooks for 50% off as part of my Halloween 2022 Book Sale from October 31st to November 6th. When deciding whether this would be an important investment, you need to ask yourself a few questions:
- How good is your sense of time, rhythm and feel?
- Can you hear and recognise the scales and arpeggios that you practice?
- What is your comprehension for music theory?
- Are you in control of your own dynamics when you play?
- Do you have command with funk syncopation or is this a weak point?
- What are your reading skills like?
- Can you improvise a bass line and make it musical?
- Can you improvise a solo and make it musical?
- Do you understand how to analyse a harmonic progression?
Remember, if your foundation is weak then anything built on top of that will also be weak. Take this opportunity, to expand your knowledgebase and musicianship, while making a big savings of 50% at the same time!
